It’s hard to believe that 2025 has come to an end. Where does the time go? It seems like just yesterday everyone was in a panic because all of the world’s infrastructure was going to shut down because of the Y2K bug. Now we’re suddenly a quarter done with this century.

As the year nears an end, let’s take some time to review three more 2025 films. Are any of these titles worth checking out before we head into 2026?

Wake Up Dead Man, the third entry into writer-director Rian Johnson’s Knives Out series, is far from awful, but, considering the critical acclaim it’s received, is a major disappointment and extremely overrated.

King Sorrow is the newest horror novel by Joe Hill. Though it’s not without its issues, despite being nearly 900 pages long, the book is a fast, easy, and enjoyable read. There are sections of it that are truly fantastic, and while I’d hesitate to call King Sorrow truly terrifying horror, there are great moments of suspense.

There are plenty of movies to choose from when you’re looking for a new film, but finding something of quality can be harder than you’d expect. Luckily, these three 2025 releases are all available to stream currently and are each well worth a watch!

Pokémon Legends: Z-A is a total mixed bag. There are certain aspects to it that I definitely enjoy, but in a lot of key areas the game also really misses the mark. After having loved Pokémon Legends: Arceus when it was released three years ago, it’s hard not to view Z-A, its successor, as somewhat of a disappointment.

Netflix’s four-episode miniseries, Death by Lightning, is a historical drama centering on a U.S. president most viewers likely don’t know too much about.

Well, folks, this is it. Over the past year or so, I’ve been reading Robin Hobb’s fantastic Realm of the Elderlings novels, and I’ve made it to the final trilogy.

Is HBO’s Task up to the task (of being one of the better quality shows newly streaming)? It just might be, but it’s lacking that special something that truly sets it apart.

It’s not too bold to say that Alien: Earth is the best show or film that’s been released in the Alien franchise in my lifetime. It’s somewhat harder to grasp that a franchise that gave us a fantastic first two films, Alien in 1979, and the far more action-oriented Aliens in 1986, hasn’t really had many great releases since then.

This month’s movie reviews run the gamut in terms of genres; we’ve got everything from heartfelt drama to action-thriller and horror. Amongst these three summer releases is also my favorite new release of the season so far.

Donkey Kong Bananza is a (not too hard) platformer that’s incredibly similar to 2017’s Super Mario Odyssey, which was also developed by the same team. How does this new Switch 2 title compare?

Since the start of 2025, I’ve been making my way through Robin Hobb’s Realm of the Elderlings novels. The Rain Wild Chronicles, books 10 through 13 overall, are widely considered the worst of the entire run. How are they actually, and are they still worthwhile reading?

Personal tastes change over time. You can watch a movie when it first comes out, think it’s fantastic, then rewatch the same film years later and find it to be not nearly as good. So, I was curious to see what I thought of The Town, a movie I really enjoyed when it was released 15 years ago.

The Gilded Age has always been a show that’s lived in the shadow of its far superior forbearer, Downton Abbey. That’s never been more evident than with this current season, which though completely watchable and mostly entertaining, is the weakest season of either series.
